BEYOND HONOR

In these times in which the principles and rhetoric have been trampled and replaced by a cluster of nonsense and materialistic junctures, when beyond good and evil is imposed the decision of the «most» on the most dispossessed, when persecuted to those who raise their voices and those who are part of the ring are ignored, when the entities called to impart justice provide it to those who «manage» to accede to it by the quickest route; suddenly appears, the image of someone who can give assurance and faith that we can still believe in the intangibles, in the Socratic truth or in the platonic chimera. To have belonged to the generation that witnessed the life of a former combat pilot, naval officer and senator from the United States of America is to be fortunate.

In these times of anti-values, where corruption pervades and the misrepresentation of eternal concepts has been marginalized by the vices of humanity, John McCain appears. Without being a faithful follower of the policies of the great powers, I allow myself to call for reflection on what a human being in life gave for their nation.

Navy officer, as a fighter pilot, was featured in the Vietnam War where his bomber fighter was shot down in 1967 and taken prisoner for more than five years. In captivity he kept the faith and the hope of being released and that’s how it was, writing his story in a book called Father’s Faith. He retired in 1982 and a year later he joined the Republican party of which he was a senator since 1985. He participated in the presidential campaign for 2008, where Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination. Of naval family, father and grandfather, admirals four stars, he carried in his blood the concept of honor, in addition to an innate rebellion, because in his combat diaries he wrote about politicians: «they are complete idiots my civil commanders … »

His rebelliousness marked his personality throughout his life, from the Naval Academy of Annapolis to his career in politics, where he had controversial meetings with officials of his party and the Democratic opposition.

Among his last wishes, was that Donald Trump does not attend his wake, which more than fulfill his daughter, in his words expressed pride has had the United States of America as one of his children featured John McCain III.

Will we be able to dismiss our politicians like that? Of course, yes. We did it with Sixto Durán Ballén a little more than a year ago, who despite the fact that Rafael Correa was still in power, could follow the protocols of law and dismiss as befits one of the most outstanding statesmen of the modern republican era Ecuadorian

What McCain has done throughout his life shows that his country can be served from different platforms, having as a common denominator the bold service and the risk that comes with challenging the system.

Beyond the honor of having fought like a medieval warrior in an asymmetric war like that of Vietnam; returning home, and devote to politics has as a corollary, that while they have clear objectives of delivery to their fellow citizens, the perception of statesman and the courage inherited from the naval family caste, made McCain all a character in the political dialectic and social of our generation.

A great one is leaving, whose farewell speeches, in particular those of Clinton, Bush, son, and Obama, had as a common denominator the integrity of the war sailor and statesman politician to face problems in life.

Yes gentlemen, there are still paintings that harbor the most expensive institutional values, principles of unwavering ethics and morals, service to the test of everything and most importantly human greatness; The McCain amendment, which abolished the mistreatment of prisoners of war, is included in its main works.

Exemplary lives like this represent the spearhead for those of us who have lost almost all faith in political society, however; with testimonies like these, we promote our faith and we project ourselves, but by the same path, yes by routes with the echo that yes you can fight against current and achieve the best in the mass conduction for your development and well-being.

McCain’s life is so well the faithful testimony for generals and admirals who believe in intangibles, those who do not have metrics but whose practice generates transformation of consciences and behaviors, resulting in the continuous improvement of society.

Go easy on Major McCain, and how he said: «The walls deepen problems, knocking them down will ease our lives considerably»; for this, more than capacity, courage and nobility are needed, very few resources in our society.

McCain leaves us a legacy that to be a hero and a warrior you do not need a uniform or a public office, you need honesty, patriotic love and a sense of solidarity to test everything.

He was a NAVY, he was a statesman … he leaves the legacy of an exemplary life.screenshot
